Meeting “Celebrity” Pastors

Awesome post by David Murray — himself a celebrity in my book!  And Matt is right, the post will surprise you (in a good way!).  David explores several angles on the topic, and makes some insightful points that I have not heard elsewhere.

    Alex,

Yes, true. As much as I might disagree with MacArthur on a number of points of theology, the MacArthurites can make life unbearable.

And, just like celebrity pastors, Jesus had groupies, too. But he regularly rebuked them and asked them why they were following him. He was a traveling freak show to some. And Jesus made it a point to be accessible to the least among all, even publicly rebuking his disciples as part of the process. He hushed his disciples to speak with lepers and children. Paul rebuked Peter, etc.

I’d like to see celebrity pastors more regularly shake their followers and entourages up. Ask them why they are following.
