Muslim Outrage at the Pope's Regensburg Message

Ever since I started to hear the buzz about Muslim outrage regarding the the speech given by Pope Benedict XVI on September 12 in Regensburg University (Germany), I was hoping to see an articulate Christian response. Here is an outstanding essay by Pastor John Piper on how Christians should respond to Muslim outrage at the Pope's speech about violence and reason.

Comments

This is a good essay. It seems clear that the Pope must have known what the reaction would be. He appears to have gone out of his way to "challenge" Islam. An interesting question is why did he do it?

Piper seems to be saying that the Crusades teach us that the church shouldn't be too involved with politics. Am I interpreting this correctly? It seems like a monstrous leap to make, to say the least.

First and utmost the truth need to be known and shouted from the mountain top:

1. The Pope is not a Christian and Roman Catholicism is NOT Christianity. It is another gospel: According to the Holy Scriptures.
2. There are many that confess to be Christians throughout history and even down to the present day that engaged in bloody wars of conquest, intolerance, slavery, and cruel exploitation of the poor. The truth is they are not followers of the Jesus Christ of the Holy Scriptures. They are not” true” Christians they are hypocrites (pretenders).
3. Biblical Christianity are persons who are “truly” born-again and follows Jesus who said: Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you. True Christians live by the laws of God kingdom: We love our enemy even to our own detriment even death. We love our brothers (these are those who do the will of the Father); we love our neighbors (who ever they may be).
4. The truth about Islam according to the Teachings of the Koran and the Hadith (biography and sayings of the prophet Muhammad) is that it is a religion of murder, hatred, and terror. There are approximately 1.4 billion Muslims in the world and THE MAJORITY of them adhere to what is called today extremist, fanaticism. When in actuality this is the foundational teaching of Islam in order to have world rule by any and all means.

As true followers of Jesus Christ we are commanded to expose, warn, and love our murderous Muslim neighbor. In addition according to Roman 12:20 if he is hunger I am to feed him, if he is thirsty, I am to give him to drink. This we should do as we look for a city, which hath foundations, whose builder, and maker is God. Now being fully persuaded to be a doer of the word of God by literally doing what Jesus said do.

William,

Thanks for your articulate comment. I'd be curious to see what data you have that "THE MAJORITY of them adhere to what is called today extremist, fanaticism." I've unsuccessfully tried to find such data in the past.

Grace and peace,
Alex

Brother Alex,

I apologize for not knowing of your question to me sooner. I derive my conclusion that THE MAJORITY of Muslims adhere to what is called today extremist, fanaticism from the following facts:

1. There IS NO reciprocal fully free marketplace of religious ideas anywhere in the “Islamic world” (population approximately 1.4 billon). Christian missionary activities are opposed without exception, and often brutally throughout the Islamic world especially in Saudi Arabia.
2. Muslims on four to five continents are striving either to oppress non-Muslims, or to attain a political situation where they can do so.
3. There has been an almost SILENCE from the religio-political ELITES (Sunni and Shites) publicly denouncing the beheading and killing of innocent Muslims and non-Muslims in the name of jihad. But conversely these clerical elites were and are quick to form WORLD WIDE MAJOR PROTEST against Danish cartoons of Muhammad, Koran flushings, and of late the Pope critique of the genocidal institution of jihad.

I do believe there are some peaceful Muslims but the majority of this minority do not live in Islamic ruled countries and do not adhere to the Koran fully and especially the teachings of its Prophet in its entirety. Unfortunately these are the very small minority who quite frankly if they become real vocal in regards to reform in Islam as pertaining to the teachings of Prophet Mohammad, jihad and such could well be considered apostate and in danger of beheadings and killings themselves.
