Obama Taps Biden: An Example of Terrible Judgement
I was wrong about the Obama-Bayh ticket. Sorry for the false alarm. I apparently gave Obama too much credit. Senator Obama, in selecting Senator Biden as his Vice Presidential nominee, has made a blunder that just might help mercifully tip the election to McCain. As John Mark Reynolds notes, Joe Biden is the perfect case of a candidate that Washington insiders find appealing but that appalls the rest of the country. Read the whole thing.

Alex,
I almost started laughing when I heard about Biden. So much for "Change" in the Obama campaign. And experience? Ha! Biden has been a senator. When has he ever run anything larger than a committee? Or implemented a solution?
Yeah, this might be equivalent to Hitler pausing at Dunkirk.

I actually DID laugh when I read the news this morning. Amazing. The man has no clue. If I were Hillary, I'd take 2 aspirin and go to bed.

I'm a Republican, from Delaware, and particularly fond of Biden. However, I think John Mark is bit too harsh on "Slow Joe" as he calls him. In Delaware (where we actually have such a thing as Slower Delaware) I've never heard Joe called 'slow.' He is actually a fine man who honors and respects people from the lowest station. He does it in private when he has nothing to gain and for people who don't even know who he is.
He has made a number verbal gaffs and really likes to hear himself speak on CSPAN, but don't think for a minute that he is clueless. He was more than a year ahead of McCain on the "Surge" but also a full-bodied conception of what diplomacy would be needed concurrently. And he has a son in the Army who is scheduled to deploy in October to Baghdad (I used to be in son's unit.)
The one thing that I do like about Joe is that he voted with the Republicans on partial birth abortion.
Probably not the smartest strategic choice for Obama, i'll give you all that much. But I think everyone needs to be careful on the character assassination side. Just my opinion though.

William,
I appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective. Any thoughts as to why Biden's campaigns for President (1988, 2008) never gained much momentum?

He's obscure. He's from "Delawhere." He's not a 'player.' He talks too much. But I wouldn't say it's because he's not smart or well informed. He's just not a politician's politician. He doesn't even live in DC. He commutes. Just my opinion. Thank you for asking, by the way. Blessings, William
