My friend Steve Wright and author of reThink has published what looks like a follow-up in some ways to his previous title (which I reviewed). Steve is an engaging, pastoral man with a passion to equip parents in training up godly children with a view toward multi-generational faithfulness. Last May I had the pleasure of interviewing Steve and meeting him when live-blogging a conference for him. Steve has an usual blend of intensity and warmth. With a mature, relational demeanor he simultaneously connects with parents and youth. If you found … [Read more...] about Steve Wright – ApParent Privilege

John Calvin: A Heart for Devotion, Doctrine, Doxology
This incredible team of contributors brought together by Burk Parsons have assembled what looks like an outstanding introduction to the life, ministry, and heart of John Calvin. "To my knowledge there never has been a collection of authors of any edited volume under whose ministry I would rather sit than these...This a good way to meet John Calvin: in the holy hearts of humble servants of Christ. The only better way would be to read the man himself." - John Piper Contributors: Jay E. Adams, Eric J. Alexander, Thabiti Anyabwile, Thomas K. Ascol, Joel R. Returning From Blog Hiatus
I've had a long break from posting. My wife and I had a very restful time visiting her family in northern California over Thanksgiving (discounting two brutal road trips with a few hours of heavy traffic and two children in tow). While up there I slept about 10 hours a day. Upon our return I was immediately thrown into the end of the semester push (Final Exams less than two weeks away). To my regret, I was not as enterprising as this guy who sold ads on his tests. A few odds and ends: In other news, I've been really enjoying The Forgotten Man: A New History of the Great Depression by … [Read more...] about Returning From Blog Hiatus
Gay Marriage and the California Courts
William McGurn is Vice President at News Corporation who writes speeches for CEO Rupert Murdoch. Previously he served as Chief Speechwriter for President George W. Bush. Writing in the Wall Street Journal, McGurn expresses concern for the judicial system seeking to interrupt or bypass democratically selected standards on morally disputed matters, such as the decision of the California Supreme Court to review the legality of Proposition 8. "The great achievement of our system was to create a political order where these great moral disputes, as a matter of policy, are left to the people -- … [Read more...] about Gay Marriage and the California Courts
Blacklisting of Yes on Proposition 8 People
Dr. Albert Mohler suggests that the blacklisting and persecution of Yes on Prop 8 individuals and organizations is a sign of things to come: The response of Hollywood is the temptation to blacklist anyone who supported Proposition 8 and to eliminate or marginalize their influence in liberal Hollywood. This response deserves a close look, for it almost surely represents the shape of the future when it comes to the issue of gay marriage. For some time now, many legal scholars and observers have warned that the issue of same-sex marriage represents one of the most coercive dynamics in our … [Read more...] about Blacklisting of Yes on Proposition 8 People
Fireproof Sizzles
My wife and I saw Fireproof this last weekend and found it to be simply outstanding. There are plenty of reasons why the movie is performing so well at the box office, in spite of precious little being spent on advertisement. The acting, plot, scripting, and just about everything was done very, very well. Check out the story. And this trailer: … [Read more...] about Fireproof Sizzles
