Alexander Strauch's new book, Leading with Love, was published this year. Having previously written on ecclesiological matters (such as the role of Elders and Deacons), and on nitty-gritty, practical matters like how to run meetings that work, Strauch now deals with the indispensable nature of love in the life of the Christian leader. With over 30 years of pastoral experience at the same church, Strauch writes out of a full heart not just for his flock, but for the future of Christian leaders, both among the laity (teachers, small group leaders, etc.) and those paid by the church. Srauch … [Read more...] about Alex Strauch – Leading with Love

Time For The Talk: Leading Your Son Into True Manhood
I read this fantastic book in preparation for some messages I gave at Riverbend Community Church in Ormond Beach, FL a few weeks ago. I think every father of a young son should buy it and read it while his son is still a young boy. It will equip him to do something very challenging and absolutely crucial in our day: Lovingly, biblically and effectively communicating to his son the changes that come with puberty, the dangers associated with the world's distortions of God's good gift of sexuality, and how to glorify God as a man. Today only, it's on sale for $6.98 - 50% off. Ted Tripp's … [Read more...] about Time For The Talk: Leading Your Son Into True Manhood
Resources regarding Elders/Deacons
This past weekend Pastor John Piper gave a five-hour seminar on Biblical Eldership. Afterwards, a friend of mine who is involved at another church asked me about resources discussing how to transition from a deacon-led ecclesiology to one that gives proper emphasis to elders and deacons working together, each in different spheres. That got me thinking about resources regarding elders and deacons. The first that came to mind is the classic Biblical Eldership by Alex Strauch (assigned reading for Piper's seminar). Strauch has also dealt with the subject of deacons in his The New Testament … [Read more...] about Resources regarding Elders/Deacons
Anticipated Blog Topics – An Overview
I thought I'd take a moment to give readers an overview of the sort of topics on which I'll be posting. Barring the occasional post when I just write on something that's on my mind, the following are the sorts of topics you can expect to be discussed regularly: 1. Cultural issues impacting marriage and singleness. Such matters overlap with my most recent book, With One Voice (reviewed here), which deals with singleness and the relevance of complementarianism in premarital relationships & deliberations regarding marriage. It also discusses the biblical normality of marriage for adults … [Read more...] about Anticipated Blog Topics – An Overview

Parents who engage their teens in the ways Alex recommends will accomplish things that cannot be achieved through any exercise of parental authority...I am happy to recommend this book as a sharp tool for … [Read more...] about Endorsements
The Autistic Brain – Temple Grandin
Temple Grandin is a hero in the autism community, and for good reason. At 65 years of age, she is one of the world's most accomplished and well-known adults with autism. She grew up in an era when children with autism were shunned while their mothers were blamed. But Temple's mother would have none of it; she fought to get her daughter help, which often meant pioneering new forms of treatment for the mostly unknown disorder. Thanks to the efforts of many, including caring, dedicated, and creative teachers, Temple came out of her shell. Today Dr. Grandin is a Professor of Animal Science at … [Read more...] about The Autistic Brain – Temple Grandin
